Oh my God, it’s full of flowers

Found at an estate sale, all the way on the bottom shelf of a bookcase in a dark corner. It’s all some sort of clay, it seems fragile but it flexes a little instead of breaking. Of course, i’m not stress testing these…look at all of them!

They’re mostly roses of all colors and sizes; some that could pass for hydrangeas (my favorite!); an assortment of leaves and a section chock full of teddy bears. I don’t know how old they are or how long it must have taken to make all of them.

I’ve been craving to make my own bobby pins as of late, and i think these might be perfect…but wouldn’t i have to seal them somehow? Thoughts or reccomendations?

I never met a refrigerator dish i didn’t like

The dishes on the left were sitting out in the middle of the room for God and everybody to see. I let out a”meep” and grabbed them – they’re in GREAT condition. As you can see, they perfectly match the butterprint bowl on the right…

…which was my grandmother Jennie’s; she died several years ago. My mother got this and another white pyrex bowl when grandma went into a nursing home; I’ve had them for years, through moves and roommates and failed recipes of all kinds. They are my first pyrex pieces. Grandma Jennie lived in Ohio and was a hardcore thrifter back in the day. I went with her once or twice when we would visit up there, but I honestly think I got something genetic from her that has created the hobby in me, too. My father certainly seems to think so, and is quick to say it must skip generations.

I’ve never wanted to add any more butterprint Pyrex in my collection – it’s as if somehow it would make grandma’s bowl less special. But I think she’d congratulate me on a good score with the fridge dishes.

The book is a Joan Walsh Aglund, “Love is a Special Way of Feeling.” I love those illustrations and have a few copies of this book already…but what’s one more!
