hitting the bottle

The obsession with bottlebrush trees continues even a week after Christmas. Did you know you can dye those things? Surely you’ve seen all those adorable pasteled-and-glittered up trees on the internets:

And all this time I thought folks were buying them from some top secret colored bottlebrush tree store. Nope! It’s just as easy as can be with all kinds of tutorials available:

But really, you don’t even need a tutorial. Just bleach ‘em ’till they’re white, then dye them with Rit ’till they’re whatever color you want. I’m halfway through the process and bleached all the trees I had (suddenly I wished I’d bought more!) It took mere minutes to bleach them – it was super, super easy. Now I have to settle on some colors; I think they’re cute for any winter holiday (Valentine’s Day is coming!!!) and those Halloween trees are the bee’s knees.

UPDATE: my first results are here

You could dye for V.D., re-dye for St. Pat’s, and repeat until they disintegrate! I had no idea this was possible. When I get a house, could you come decorate? Or at least landscape?
